What's your idea of reasonable? That can mean anything. If you have a upper limit on your budget, it might be helpful if you stated it. Because I think you can rent a place for any time for most of the standard parisian vacation apt. agencies (and you'll find many posts on Fodors about all of them). However, that isn't going to be cheap since they are priced for vacationers. But, some agencies do give some discounts for longer term rentals, although they often aren't huge (maybe 10?). I can look some up that do that, but that's why I asked what your budget was, because if you expect something really cheap, even those aren't going to be 20-30 euro a day or anything.
Do you know French fairly well? Because I also can look up some personal rental websites by French owners, if you can handle that. Some may know some English, but you can't count on that, at least not enough to handle all the transaction details for you and to explain everything totally in English. For example, I think www.lodgis.fr is one of them with lots of places to rent by owners, try it. Now I think there may be some commission on there, actually, so take note of whether it's included in the quoted price for long term ones.
I have rented from www.locaflat.com, and I know they have some discounts by time, but I think it's only 10 pct.

I had in mind about $1200/mo. My plan was to stay in a hotel for the first couple of weeks and try to find something within that budget.
Does it even make sense? I am not sure I know how to get started. I even considered looking into residences that may rent out to students. Of course, I am not young and I am not sure where they would rent something for someone my age (late 50s) but I thought I may find something that can allow me to get started. I can get along with some French. Strangely enough I understand it much more than I can speak it.

I rented an apartment for a month in Paris through http://www.paristay.com. They seem to offer a substantial discount for monthly rentals (e.g., two weeks at 900euros/week or 1500euros/month). They have dozens of properties around the city in all sizes, price ranges, etc.
The apartment I rented greatly exceeded my expectations. My experience with Paristay was limited. I booked the apartment and paid a commission to them, however I worked directly with the owner regarding payment, check-in/out, etc.

Thank you for the information. I started reviewing their rentals. There is indeed a possibility to find something there, especially if I don't have any electric or internet charges.

I'd start looking on www.vrbo.com - many of the properties there are either available for that term and/or managed by an apartment agent that can help.
