Where is the best source for leasing/renting an automobile for 26 days? We have spoken with AutoEurope about their "new" Peugeot lease/purchase. Has anybody had any experience problems with the purchase/buy-back agreement with Peugeot/Auto Europe?

Where do you need to pick it up and drop it off? AutoFrance is a direct link with Peugeot and we have wonderful luck with them on their lease plans. I'm not sure how they compare, but look at their website and give them a call to compare. They are great to deal with.<BR>www.autofrance.net

Never had any problems with AutoEurope and I've leased from them many times. Just be aware that the "new" Peugot lease/purchase usually requires you to take resposibility for the car's first mechanical "check-up." I think it's a 5,000 km, but am not sure. What that means is that you have to plan to find a Peugot shop along your route and take the time for the check-up (they give you the documentation for the garage to fill in, and you have to return it to them). For some travelers, this might be a bit daunting - finding a Peugot garage, arranging for the check-up, and dealing with any problems that might result.

Is it very difficult to find Peugot garages for the service?

I "bought" a Peugeot thru AutoFrance for 21 days in 1998 and thought the program worked fine. The price includes FULL insurance, and that is worth some peace of mind. Getting the 5km service was no problem at all, particularly if you speak at least some French. Last summer, I got an extremely good price from EuropCar (yes, I know pick up can be a hassle) $500 for four weeks in a Renault Scenic!!!

Karen: My experience has been limited to taking the car to the Peugot shop in the village down the road from my house in France, so I'm not qualified to give you that information. I'm sure if you ask, AutoEurope will be able to steer you toward Peugot shops along your route. There's probably a Peugot website somewhere with that information, too.

I have many times recommended AutoFrance. Much better since AutoEurope and Kemwell became one company under their parent company and their quotes are always identical,<BR>You don't need any of them until they discover that they have to be competitive. Call them for a quote after receiving their brochure. The prices will be lower.<BR>Patrick, let me commend you for this recommendation. It's taken a long time.

Great deal and easy--depending on where you start and end. Both Peugeot and Renault have the plan. We did the Peugeot program in 1999 and saved $1500.

I believe Renault's program is bigger than Peugeot's - http://www.renaultusa.com<BR>We've used it and thought it was wonderful. Remember that both insurance AND TAXES are included in the price. As in the US, the final bill most conventional car rental agencies give you will flat stop your heart when you get to the taxes line. Not so with the lease deals.

Auto France's program does charge a fee of $60 to pick up and the same to drop off at Zurich at airport. <BR>The maintenance thing was no problem for us. We knew about where we would be and the agency where we picked up the car gave us a complete list of dealers. We took it in in Bordeux and the whole operation took about 10 or 15 minutes --no appointment required. I've always wished I could get service like that at home.
