Londoners: What building is this?
 

About ten years ago or so I took a 'Jack the Ripper' bus tour in London with my Mum. Don't remember the company now, but we booked at a tour office at Victoria Station.

When we did the tour, our tour guide took us to a number of notorious London landmarks, and stopped at one we'd never heard of. It was an old house that he said was currently acting as a community center. He stated that there had been rumours that the gentleman who built the house was a satanist, and after the building went to the city for renovation, several partial skeletons were found, including some of children hidden in the chimney.

After returning to the states, I couldn't remember the name of the building, and emailed the tour company to ask. They replied that they have no such stop on their tour, and had never heard of our tour guide (not surprising, as they are mostly actors and undoubtedly use character names on the tour).

Do any of you know what building this might be? Not a big deal, but it's driving me a bit mad. Thanks!

No idea, sorry. The guides (if which I was one) are not adverse to making stuff up.

The best known statnist in London lived in JErmyn St in Picadilly.

The best known community centres in the area are relatively modern buildings.

The only place I can think of that might even partly meet the bill is the Hugenot House just by the Ten Bells pub.

It's at 19 Princelet Street.

You'll have to google it yerselves as my computer appears to have joined a trade union.

I don't know about creepy houses, but Nicholas Hawksmoor was the architect of Christ Church Spitalfields which I assume is on the Ripper trail.
One of two people have suggested that he might have been a Satanist.

CW, I knew most of those guides take some, er, artistic license? But I was more interested in what the building itself was. It was really very interesting.
