London with Kids

I wanted to ask any of you for suggestions. I have read a LOT, and still can't come to a set plan. I am traveling to London with my two children, a 20 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. Because of the age difference I also have to find sites that are "kid friendly". I will be staying near the Southwark Station. If any of you have a list for us to visit in London I would really appreciate it. I purchased Fodors 25 Top Places to Visit, but nothing beats a true London native or alike.
Thanks
Vi

I am not a native Londoner, not even close, but it is my favorite city and I visit often. I also took my nephews when they were kids. They were ten and twelve and real history buffs.

The Tower of London and the Crown Jewels should appeal to both your daughter and son.

A river trip down on the Thames.

St. Paul's Cathedral and the whispering gallery.

The Museum of London

A walk in Hyde Park to find Peter Pan's statue

Hampton Court Palace with its maze, gardens

Windsor Castle with Queen Mary's Doll House which is fabulous. Even the boys were fascinated.

Your son is old enough to go off on his own if there is something to do with your daughter if he is not interested in that particular visit.

Barnes and Noble has a couple of books with ideas for London with kids. They are written by different authors so take a trip to your nearest book store and find one of those or have them order it for you. Also guide books on London have subsections with ideas for kids.

Have fun!

I would expect (and hope) a 20 year old man and a 6 year old girl would have vastly different interests.

Have a look here to get started

I'd second irishface's list.

I'm not sure about the 20 year old, but the 6year old may enjoy the British Museum, especially the Egyptian galleries. There is also the Natural History Museum.

Have your son look at the Let's Go student guide - it will give him a lot of ideas - since I am assuming that he will want to do a lot of things on this own that are no appropriate for a small child. It will also give him and idea of where to go for student type nightlife - so he can meet some locals his own age.

Go to this:
http://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/events...aptains-orders

It's for 6 to 12-year olds.

Sadly my kids are too old, and they don't allow adults without kids in that age group :-(

A correction from yesterday's reply of mine: It's Kensington Gardens, not Hyde Park with Peter Pan Statue

One book is "Around London with Kids" compiled by Fodors.
