london--Where to stay one night before heading to Gatwick

We are planning our March trip to Paris, but because of a great bus class sale, are flying in and out of London. We'll arrive in London after lunch on Tuesday, with an 11AM flight out of Gatwick. We know we'll need to get up early and down to the airport, but we don't want to sleep there, as we may elect to pick up last minute tickets in the West End.

Should we stay near Victoria Station for the most convenience next morning? I'm looking for very well priced--I previously used Priceline to get a 4* Millenium Baileys for around $100 USD. Has anyone used PL for the Victoria area or have other safe, clean suggestions? Thanks, Barb

Yes, stay near Victoria, although be aware that if you have a lot of luggage, you still may want a taxi in the morning. But the fare will be much cheaper than if you stayed elsewhere.

The King's Cross - Holborn and Kensington neighborhoods are another good choice, as there are at least five train stations¹ that serve Gatwick in those areas.

One of London's best-kept secrets is that the Gatwick Express from Victoria is only one of TEN trains to the airport. From west to east, these are:

Kensington Olympia¹
West Brompton¹
Victoria
Charing Cross
Waterloo East
Blackfriars
City Thameslink¹
Farringdon¹
King's Cross Thameslink¹
London Bridge

Gatwick Express has marketed so successfully that the other operators have become practically invisible to overseas visitors.

I think staying near Victoria would be a fine idea.

I'm flying out of Gatwick next month, and my flight is at 10:15am. I won a bid on PL for the Millennium Gloucester (4* Kensington zone) for $85. It is 2 tube stops from Victoria, which should make the journey quite simple.

Early in the AM , a taxi from either Millenium Baileys or Millenium Gloucester ( they are next door to each other) should be around 10 £ or less. Not much more than 2 tube fares!

Our fare from the M. Gloucester to Victoria last Friday morning was £8.80.

The Bailey's is no longer a Millennium hotel. They were just putting the new sign up as we were leaving, so I don't know what they are now.

Last May, I stayed at a place I really liked very close to Victoria.

It's called B + B Belgravia, on Ebury Street, w/in walking distance to Victoria, even for two women who'd done a bit of shopping....
