London Week: Meal planning
We'll be staying in an apartment near Harrods for 7 days. Our original intention was to eat breakfast and dinner in our apartment, using nearby food halls and grocers to stock our pantry with interesting things. But we don't want to miss out on unusual culinary experiences, either, so I'm looking for suggestions of places to eat breakfast or dinner in the Knightsbridge area, or any other interesting ways to make our culinary experience of London exciting. We plan to eat lunch on the go, either at markets or restaurants we find on our route, and I hope we'll get to have a real tea at least once during our trip. (Any suggestions for lunch and tea would be appreacited, too.)

have lunch at the Borough market and buy supplies there.Food halls esp Harrods are expensive but maybe that doesn't matter.

One of my favorites is on Montpelier street a 5 minutes walk from Harrods, Montepeliano. Other good ones in the general area
Bumpkin.. 102 Old Brompton Rd 68-86 6886 Cromwell Rd Aubaine 262 Brompton Rd Frankie's 3 Yeoman Rd Racine 239 Brompton Rd. Tom's Kitchen 27 Cale St There is a French Brasserie, whose name is escaping me this early in the morning. It's right across from Brompton Oratory . I think it might be St.Quentin A good pub not to far away is the Anglesea Arms on Onslw Sq , good food too in a seperate dining area. There are quite a few ethnic places along Brompton Rd between S. Ken and Gloucester Rd tube stations |
2 more good ones just came to mind
Oriel, kind of a brasserie type place, right next to Sloane Square tube station. Carluccio's , Italian and they also have a great deli, across from South Kensigton tube. Alla re walkable from the Harrod's area |
Haandi just a couple of blocks west of Harrod's on Brompton Rd. on the north side of the street if you would like Indian food. Or just behind it is Shezan, another Indian restaurant.
For breakfast, try Patisserie Valerie either behind Harrod's or their other location on Brompton Road a few blocks west of Harrod's. It's pricey but the food is good if you want Chinese is Good Earth, also west of Harrod's on Brompton. There are several restaurants on Beauchamp Place just off Brompton Rd. about 2 blocks west of Harrod's including a Pizza Express (Sloppy Giuseppi is my favorite.) There's also a good Lebanese restaurant in the same block as Haandi's on the north side of Brompton Road but I can't remember the name. |
Oh, for tea I usually always go to Harrods Georgian Room. Really good & nice atmosphere. (I shouldn't have put the apostrophe in Harrods on my previous post before the grammar/spelling police jump me. ;) ) It's around £20 but I never need dinner after enjoying it.

Thanks for the great tips! As for budget, we save when we can and spend when we have to or when it's really worth it, really good food/experience that I will remember for at least as long as it takes me to save up the cost all over again!
Please keep your meal-planning ideas coming -- I have 6 weeks to work up an appetite! |
While I know you're asking for places near your apartment, I would still highly recommend you check out London's chinatown for a meal or two there.
Or if you're in Covent Garden neighborhood, I've enjoyed Belgo Centraal for moules et frites. Around Holborn area, Fryer's Delight serves excellent fish and chips. http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/p...8/IMG_2703.jpg If you are visiting V&A, don't miss their gorgeous dining rooms. http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/p...8/IMG_2569.jpg |
Harvey Nichols has a really unusual dinning experience. They have a Japanese Rest. with a moving serpentine table if it is still there. We were there 2 years ago. You sit and the table goes by. You pick what you want to eat off the moving table or tell the waitress and she will have it made for you. Items are priced by color of bowl. Miso soup was free when we were there.
They also have a sit down restaurant available. We had a kind of high tea there. Wife and I really enjoyed both. |
Just got this neat breakfast video from UKTV foods newsletter.
Fun to watch and 2 of the places are close to Knightsbridge. One of them I'd already recommended http://dave.uktv.co.uk/video/dave-or...est-breakfast/ |
Great video - and great website! Thanks for the link.
