London Walks to Greenwich
 

Would you recommend a London Walks tour for Greenwich or is it best to do on your own? Has anyone taken the London Walks tour to Greenwich?

Does it make sense to do or by the time the walk ends you don't have much time for anything else in the area?

The Thames Path goes to Greenwich and the Thames Barrier, well marked & perfectly easy to do on your own:

I went on the walk awhile ago and they take you into the royal naval college and explain the history of the place. We had a very lovely guide called Nick. I thought it was a informative walk.

The walk ends in Greenwich, so you can spend as much additional there as you want. It wasn't my favorite, but it was a good experience.

Yes, but what time does the tour end? If it ends around 14:00 and museums close at 17:00, do you have enough time to explore after the walk to get to the observatory and maritime museum and the Cutty Sark?

We took the tour from the Visitor's Centre, available at 12:15 and 2:15 (we took the latter).

It was fine, but not outstanding.

We found that we had to make some choices as we didn't have time to see it all. We did the Royal Observatory, the Maritime Museum (quickly), and the walking tour. We just did an outside look at the Cutty Sark due to time (and cost).

We really liked Greenwich overall.

I did the Greenwich tour with London Walks years ago. I found it informative. I, too, really like Greenwich, and try to get there every time I visit London. If you get a chance, check out the Greenwich Market--one of my favorites. http://www.shopgreenwich.co.uk/shopping

We took the London walks tour of Greenwich a while back and really enjoyed it. The walks are all about 2-3 hours, ours ended at lunch time so there was plenty of time to eat at a pub and see the museums. I would highly recommend the tour!

My experience with the London Walks Greenwich tour was exactly as jamikins described...very informative with plenty of time to visit the museums. I also enjoyed the boat trip along the Thames.

Going to Greenwich on the river boats is a really pleasant way to get there.

Took the London Walks tour of Greenwich on our first visit to London many moons ago. Enjoyed it so much we now go back to Greenwich every trip....

Indy-dad--I had read your blog above before (enjoy all your blogs and looking forward to your next installment)!

If we do take the walk with London walks then we have to factor in that we may not get to everything there is to see in Greenwich that day. But the walk sounds like it would be informative and fun.

We went on the London Walks Greenwich Tour on Mar. 16th. Here is the short description from my trip report:

"London Walks Greenwich tour - 10:30-1:00 with Chris from yesterday's Windsor tour.
Took boat from Tower pier to Greenwich-great tour! Got photo of DH standing on both sides of the Prime Meridian. I loved the Chapel of St. Peter & Paul and the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College.
Took a Thames Clipper boat (4 pounds with Travelcard) to return quickly to Tower pier."

We had the option of going back to the Observatory, the Museum, the Greenwich Market (which we enjoyed), etc. - plenty of time, since the guided tour ended at 1:00 PM. I always enjoy a good guided tour over a self guided.
