London Walks
 

I am leaving soon for London and I have been reading the posts about walks. Where can I get information about them please? Is there a local newspaper that lists various walking tours? Help please. Thank you very much.

You can see their schedule and all information on that site. Once in London, their brochures are at many hotels, tourist offices, etc. Or just print the schedule from the website, although that would be less convenient to carry. Their walks are great!

Check out The Original London Walks at www.walks.com. They have hundreds of walks to choose from and only cost 5.50 Euro or 4.50 Euro if you are over 65, or a full-time student or if you buy their Discount Walkabout card for just 1.00 Euro (Ok I didn't pay close enough attention on how to make the Euro sign, better do my homework better.) You can print the schedule off, or email them as I did and receive a handy, more compact copy by mail. They also told me that they were available at the airport. Have fun and report back on how good they are. We don't leave for London until July and am interested.

And of course the walks are £5.50 not 5.50 euro since as of now, euro are not the currency of the UK (and not for the foreseeable future either)

London Walks are good - but there are also many other interesting walks every day in London.

besides the Londonwalks website, be sure to check Time Out magazine. It is available everywhere in London and lists walks, concerts, plays, ehibitions, restaurant reviews, etc . . . .

I was in London last year and took several London walks - Little Venice, Hampstead & a Chelsea Pub Walk. We wanted to do a Thames Pub Walk but it wasn't offered on the days we would be there. Anyway, they were all great - guides very knowledgeable and they took you to off the beaten path places that as a tourist, you might not find on your own. I really enjoyed it. Group sizes were manageable and the torus were worth the $$. Hampstead was my favorite area...Little Venice was also quaint and cute. They were all good!! See the Price Albert Bridge (I think that's what it is??) that is all lit up at night in Chelsea. Beautiful...

This may or may not be the type of walk you are thinking of but.... my friends took me (kicking and screaming) to the Jack the Ripper tour (walking tour). I didn't think I would enjoy it but I was the minority so we all went... I loved it ! It was very informative and wasn't the cheesy type walk I was expecting. Definitely a good one to check out !

Yes, the Jack The Ripper walk is a lot of fun. We enjoyed that very much. All of them I have been on have been great. All of the Beatles walks are wonderful too.

I have taken both the Hampstead and Thames Pub Walks. They were both terrific, but the Thames one was marginally better. The guides are so informative and entertaining and it gives a good glimpse into areas you might not have gone to otherwise. I will be taking the Chelsea Pub Walk in just two weeks. Yipee!!

I live in London and love getting out and about in the city at weekends when all I do in the week is commute. My husband and I have been on a few of the walks with www.walks.com and they've all been great. The guides are knowledgeable abnd professional. Humourous when they need to be and always informative.

Be sure that you first check into the Ministry of Silly Walks and get your official Monty Python Walking Permit. Must have.

For a little over $15 you can buy DayTrips London by Earl Steinbicker which gives 10 London walks. Oh, you'll also get 40 daytrips in and around London and southern England as a bonus. This is one of my favorite travel guides. But who cares.
