London Walks
Hi!
I am leaving for London tonight -- yippee!! Sadly, I will only be in the city on Saturday and then fly out again on Sunday. I was thinking of doing one of the London Walks tours while I am there - I'm leaning toward the pub tour at 7:15 p.m. Alternatively, I am looking at the Jack the Ripper matinee at 3:00 p.m. Has anyone been on one of the pub tours? Do you recommend it? Also, I am going alone and am female - do you think I would be out of place? Thank you very much ~ Stacy :) |
There are numerous references the London Walks Pub Tours here, esp. the Aristocratic London one. I think they are welcoming to singles, but have no personal experience of the London ones. Certainly the Rome version is for singles of all ages and both genders.

Some love the Jack the Ripper tours, others delight in bashing the ones who like it.
Depends on personal tastes but I'm sure the pub walk would be enjoyable. |
I've done several London Walks, including an evening pub walk and there is no problem joining as a single woman. As other London Walks, this is educational. The one I took stopped briefly at 2 pubs to sample the beer/ale. The guide explained various brands to us so we could choose what we wanted (the cost of the drink is not included in the price of the walk). You did not have to drink beer or ale as soft drinks or water are also available in pubs. In between pubs we walked along the river and past the Globe Theatre with an historical commentary. It was fun.
The other walk I really enjoyed was the Christopher Wren walk. |
I've been on some, too. We did the Aristocratic London pub walk. It was fun and there were singles in the group, for sure. Actually, I think we were one of only two couples.

I've done several London Walks pub tours and liked them. Both were with my husband, but I'd have been very comfortable alone.
I recently did a pub tour in Prague as a solo female and was very comfortable. The group was comprised of two married couples, two sisters, one single guy, me, and the guide, and it was a very pleasant group, and a nice way to be out in the evenign without having to thing about being alone. |
Oh, meant to point outt he following: if you show up for a pub tour and the group doesn't suit, just don't go. Lots of rowdy youngsters, thirty red hat ladies, whatever, just bag it.

The london walks pub walks aren't pub crawls - they are basically guided walk with a couple of rest stops in pubs. So there won't be loads of people looking for a piss up.
I would seriously suggest that you do the pub walk over the ripper one. The JTR walk is basically a con. |
