London walk:off the road,a walk around Telegraph Hill

Spring comes early in London, seas of daffodils, crocus and blue bells have been dancing in the wind,Londoners welcome the Spring with all kind of events.

Last Sunday, I attended a free historical walk around Telegraph Hill(in southeast of London), it was a part of local Spring Art Festival. The weather was cloudy and windy, not that great, but I was joined by several dozens enthusiastic local people:a young lady with her playful dog(he kept tangled people with the leash),a mother with baby in stroller, a father with two little boys on rollers, people from different races and ages....

The guide walked us from one landmark to the other with witty and informative comment: how the telegraph worked in 18th century, the differences among each group of buildings, the histories of schools and church, the dispute of boundary between Surrey and Kent..etc.

We walked under the pink flowering trees, along all kind of spring bulbs blooming in the neat front yards of rolls of victorian houses;with "Art on Window"programe, there were some interesting window displays here and there;walkers drifting in and out, passby greeting each other...

This was a side of London I first time experienced, but enjoyed so very much.

If anyone interested, check Thehill.org.uk.

Lovely report. We had our coldest weather of the winter last week, and my poor daffodils are just raising their limp little heads after lying down for awhile in snow and despair. A little bunch of primroses, though, just kept blooming.

I live near telegraph hill. you certainly made it to a section of london that most tourists would never find. it can be very beautiful even though south london is shunned by the rest of the city.

As the "guide" - in reality only the chairman of the local residents' amenity society who has picked up a bit of local knowledge along the way - I thank you. Quite a lot of work goes into those tours and it is nice to know they are appreciated.

Odd bit of undiscovered London, aren't we?
