London Visitor Travelcard

I will be arriving in London, June 8 at 6:30a.m. and departing June 12, at 10:50a.m. I'm not sure what Travelcard to buy. I'm thinking of purchasing the 4 day Travelcard for zones 1-2. I understand this will not cover the cost of using the tube from heathrow to my hotel in Holborn (and back). Can anyone tell me how much it would cost to pay for the fare? Is there a discount for a Travelcard holder? Or am I better off just getting the Travelcard for zones 1-6? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Your June 8 trip from Heathrow to the Holborn station in London will cost £3.70.
If you plan to do any more tube traveling around central London on the 8th you can just buy single tickets for £1.60 .
On the next 3 days you can buy a daily travelcard each day for £4.10 which will allow you to travel as many times as you like in Zones 1& 2 beginning at 9:30 each day.
On the 12th you can buy a Zone 1-6 ticket to Heathrow for £3.70.
The travelcards can be purchased at any tube station..no need to purchase in advance.

I buy the travel card for zones 1 and 2 because I think it is just plain convenient to have a pass that you can use anytime on tube or bus. It might cost a little more than single tickets and daily passes combined (the daily pass has some time restrictions--can't use before 9:30 I think) but the convenience is for me worth it.

I bought the vouchers ( you have to turn them in for the actual card and activated tube ticket at an office--one is at Heathrow and there isn't one at Gatwick but there is one at Victoria Station which doesn't open till 8 or 9) from Raileurope.com along with some train tickets. Enjoy London!

As I recall from last fall the '1-day' TravelCards could only be purchased in London, with a 'peak' (any time) or 'non-peak' (valid from 9:30am on) option ... while the 'Visitor' TravelCards needed to be purchased outside of London and were available in 2 to 7 day options all of which were good for any time of day ...

You might want to check the Transport for London web site (www.transport-for-london.gov.uk/tfl/) - 'Fares & Tickets' - 'Travel Cards' for the details ... we obtained our Travel Card vouchers through RailEurope as well (but if all your are getting is the 'Travel Card' then RailEurope's shipping & handling charges may make the card overly expensive, in our case we also purchased the Heathrow Express tickets, LondonPass, BathPass & train tickets to Bath so the shipping & handling charges were offset against lots of stuff) ...

Thanks to everyone that responded. You guys have been very helpful. Thanks to your tip, I have decided to get the 4 Day Visitor Travelcard and purchase the shuttle from Heathrow to my hotel (and back) separately. That seems to be make the most sense, out of all the options. Thanks again.

Wow, I'm surprised that's a better option than the 4-day Visitors Travelcard that comes with a Heathrow return trip

You are right, The Travelcard + Heathrow Express return ticket is a better deal, but only if your hotel is near Paddington station. My hotel is not near it so I will have to take a cab from paddington to my hotel. The underground, on the other hand, has a direct line from Heathrow to my hotel.
