London venue for British Invasion rock music

This summer, I saw Ringo Starr in concert at Radio City Music Hall (NYC). One of the members of his All Starr Band was the keyboardist from the Zombies. . . .which got me to thinking. A group of us are leaving for London and points beyond in less than 2 weeks, and I was wondering: is there is a venue in London where 1960s British Invasion rockers (or a facsimile thereof) ply their wares? I did some searching before posting this and didn't find anything on point. If it is a repeat - mea culpa.

There isn’t anywhere that specificallly shows that sort of thing. Your best bet is to get a copy of Time out and have a look through the listings.

To be honest the Brits that Americans would be familiar with from that time are either global stars (beatles stones etc,) dead or in obscurity.

Some places worth a look are the Half Moon in Putney, the Bulls Head in Barnes and The Carling Academy in Islington.

There are tribute bands all over the place. Again, look in Time Out.

London's on a roll, as far as live music its the capital of the world. However, thats all made up of the new wave of britrock - sadly the last place you'll find 60s era Britrock is now London. The closest thing I can think of is that Queen tribute play on at some theater...

Hi Dave,

I can't help you with live bands, but I can tell you about something we did in London a few years ago that was really fun. Astral Travels offers a minibus coach tour of rock and roll sights in London. We saw Abbey Road, Pete Townshend's apartment from when he was in art school, and the homes of Jimmy Page, Van Morrison, Elton John, and many others. It was also fun because we went through neighborhoods that tourists don't usually visit. The tours leave from the Hard Rock Cafe.

Some of these musicians are still playing small concerts, although they may be the only original member of the band (Gerry Marsden still tours with the Pacemakers, Peter Noone does shows as well.) Your best bet is to google the names of whoever you'd like to see, and find out where they may be playing. Try the Ticketmaster.co.uk website, or Pollstar. Sometimes these musicians are playing small venues in smaller towns.
