London Vacation Rentals

Hi there,

I realize that there is a huge number of topics on this exact subject but I have a few specific questions. My girlfriend and I are coming to London in April before I go away for a semester in Europe. We'll be staying for 8 nights and will be looking to rent an apartment for our duration. I've spent countless hours researching which apartment to get and the number of viable ones is starting to hurt my head. But, we've started to narrow it down to a few companies and just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with them..

Other than these we are open to suggestions from other people and would love to hear their experiences. Our budget is £600-£900 for our 8 night stay.

Have used successfully in France and Portugal. Will use them on my next trip to London.

patrickb22: I have never heard of those two sites - and I try to pay attention to letting agencies in London. That doesn't mean they aren't legit -- just that they aren't well known for holiday lets.

(BTW - the correct link for Owners direct is I'd be very wary of them since they list properties in Catford, Tooting and Greenwich as being in "central London" -- they ain't)

vrbo and homelidays are good sites if you want to deal w/ owners directly.

Some well known agencies and/or listing sites include

and lots of others

Do you have any idea of how I would check for the legitimacy of as we have narrowed it down pretty specifically but just want to ensure we are dealing with a reliable company. Being from Vancouver it is very difficult to view the property other than the website.

Also, I am assuming you know London well from your last post. What neighbourhoods would you recommend? The one we're looking at now is in Soho (which we're paying for), but what others are good for renting an apartment. The majority of apartments I have seen that are in "central London" are in West Kensington or Chelsea, are these good neighbourhoods and actually central? What about Notting Hill?

Thank you very much!!!

Janis mentioned londonconnection. We rented a wonderful flat last June, great price. It was in Kenisngton, two blocks to Kensington Palace. It is in your price range.

Sounded like you addressed your last question specifically to JanisJ, so i hope it isn't wrong to give my opinion on this.

About Notting Hill for a flat--IMHO, no.

Any particular reason you want a flat in Soho?

I totally understand about the multitude of choices causing headache! BUt it'll be worth it. What a lovely send-off for you for your semester away!

I appreciate the response!!! No particular reason for the preference to Soho I guess just the location and being so close to the West End which we will spend a lot of time in. Also, my girlfriend fell in love with the property so I've got to make her happy! But yeah, we found one place in Notting Hill and I don't think we will do it in the end. There are a great deal of options in Chelsea that are cheaper I'm just wondering about the location and how central we would be.
