London Transport

Hi,
I will be arriving London at Waterloo International station(eurostar).
Thinking of taking bus 168 or 68 to russell square.
but are we allowed to carry our luggages up the bus?

No you can't, but you could put them in a taxi and have it follow the bus to your hotel. I know many american tourists would not have thought of that neat little trick.

Okay, seriously. I've taken luggage aboard, but it was a packpack and 21" roll-on. I expect blocking the entryway would be severely frowned on.

Buses have an area for luggage..but it is also for strollers and any other pieces of equipment people might be carrying. You'll take a chance having a place to put it!

Depending on the time of day and the size of your luggage, you may have no trouble at all, or at worst some frowning and tutting. If it's in the rush hour and the bus is heaving it could be worth waiting a while: stay in one of the station cafés and have a cup of something while the rush dies down.

Your worst problem may be having to lift the luggage to put it into the area provided, which is by the front door over the left hand wheel. There is a multi-purpose space on the lower deck available for wheelchair users or people with baby-buggies, and if it's not very crowded you could put yourself and luggage in there, but you may have to move it later.

We just took the tube from Waterloo to Euston Station, but it was 10:00 am and not busy. We had no trouble at all with our luggage.

Thanks..think will re-consider my luggage size. hopeful to squeeze all my clothings into a small backpack.
btw, i'm thinking of checking into Royal National Hotel @ russell sq. any comments on this hotel?

Bearcat, one backpack might be a little extreme. A small backpack and a single 21" roll-on bag is easy to travel with on trains and busses.

Do a text search here on packing tips or bags and see what good info you can come up with.

Assuming Russell Square is the tube station closest to your hotel, take the Northern Line from Waterloo to Leicester Square. Change there to the Piccadilly Line to Russell Square.
