London Transport
Am I to understand there is now no way to economically travel about London in The Tube during a one or two week visit? As far as I can see, the only offerings from Oyster (the travelcard replacement) are annual and monthly passes. So I am to either pay for trips individually or tank the cash for these passes? Help, please. Thanks.

Wait until you get to London and go to the counter at the first tube station you come to. They'll sell you a one week pass which covers tube and buses.

Of course not, there are visitor travelcards available for a number of different day, 4 day, weekly etc options. you can even buy visitor travel cards online and have them posted to your country

Oyster runs as well as a travel card, and travel cards have more offers. Welcome to London

What the heck is Oyster? You can get trvelcards in London for all day (they cost a bit more before 9:30 AM), weekend, or 7 days, and Visitors Travelcards for 7 days or various shorter periods. The 2 versions of 7-day cards for zones 1 & 2 cost about the same. So I agree with Sylvia, jsut buy a 7-day pass when you arrive. If you'll only need Zone 1, you'll save £3.

Oyster is recent. So far as I can see, it is a card which you place on a circle on a post, and the tube gate opens or the bus driver accepts you. You recharge it by telephone. Their plug is at http://www.oystercard.com/ But unless you are here a month there is little in it for you.

If your a walker, its quite easy to walk from say regents park to Harrods, not only is it interesting, there are many shops enroute, stop for lunch, coffee etc. Not only do you get to see London, you save money and get fit too!
