London to Stratford by train
 

How long is this ride and what is the expected cost for travel on a weekday or weekend.

I will be in London for two weeks and I am searching for day trips. Preferably within 3 hours by train, but I am willing to do a longer trip.

Also, is there a good website that I can go to to view a map and figure the expected train travel times.

About two hours, a bit over £20 for an off peak return. Not that many trains a day

www.nationalrail.co.uk is a good portal for schedules and fares; I believe it also has maps. You should note that Stratford is a suburb of London that you probably have little interest in visiting. I suspect you want to visit Stratford-upon-Avon.

The bus station at Stratford-atte-Bowe (as earlier authors described the London suburb) is an interesting piece of 90's urban design, its architects insist. But that's about the sum of that Stratford's attractions.

I sort of guessed you meant the Shakespeare Stratford.

BTW, a dirty little secret. You're not supposed to break your journey on day returns. But the machines that check tickets at Oxford don't seem to know that. And while Stratford has one of the world's great theatres, opinions differ about Stratford's other charms.

You might choose to get off the train at Oxford. and get to Stratford for the evening performance. Thames have a handy train back around 11pm
