London to NYC - help!

I'm staying in London for a few weeks, but need to make a quick trip to NYC (not my hometown) for a wedding. All the airfare seems to be very expensive -- about $750 U.S., compared to the fares originating in the U.S. Are there any European airlines that fly London to NYC? Is aiming for $400 R/T realistic? Thanks!

When?

What month? Probably unrealistic for summer. Presumably you have quite specific dates with travel on a Friday or Sunday (or both?), and adding hotel nights in NYC would quickly negate 100-$300 savings

Best wishes,

Rex

Yes, there are plenty of European airlines that travel London to New York. If you have a look on one of the onlune travel sites like Expedia, they'll show you which ones go direct.

You'll have lots more options if you don't mind a change somewhere in Europe (eg Paris for Air France etc).

Oops; clicked too soon.

Using the site above, you could get a cheap flight from London to say, Canada, and connect there. I do not believe it lists any flights which go direct to NY.

Well, of course there aren't plenty of European airlines between London and NYC.

Using a UK consolidator (www.lastminute.com or www.ebookers.com) might find a non-UK airline (like KLM or Aer Lingus) offering cheapos via their hub. Or, although I think geographic purists would claim it's American, rather than European, Icelandair

But the only European airlines flying the route directly are BA and Virgin. bmi does transatlantic flights from Manchester.

However, two Asian airlines - Air India and Kuwait - do fly the route.

Otherwise it's American, UA or Continental.

I am going to May -- it sounds like I am out of luck. I appreciate all the Web sites you've pointed me to -- please send me more!

It might help if you give us exact dates...

But on Air India, I've found fares for non-stop for £301 (tax included). That's about $560.

And on Air France, I have seen fares around £315, via Paris of course. That's about $580.

On priceline, June flights are going for $200 plus tax on Virgin Atlantic, JFK-LHR.
Might be worth a bid LHR-JFK out of curiosity.
