London to Bath
 

Hi, We will be in London in April and want to visit Bath.
We want to get there by rail and do the walking tour.
We are staying near Paddington station but all routes that I can find take 4 hours or so (seems a long time for approx. 100 miles) and requires us to swap to busses . Surely there is a train station at Bath and a much quicker way to get there. Any ideas please?

Not sure where you are looking for info, but trains to Bath Spa (the station in Bath) run from London Paddinton very regularly throughout the day and take about 1.5 to 1.75 hours. Check www.nationalrail.co.uk for train times.

It could be that the day you are trying to do this trip they have engineering works on the line, which may be interupting the regular journey. If that is the case you may need to change the date of your day trip. What day are you trying to visit?

What ARE you doing?

Just go to any British railway website (like www.nationalrail.co.uk)and enter London-Bath. Make sure it's Bath Spa.

There are direct trains at least hourly, usually taking about 75 mins.

Normally I would take that to mean weekend or public holiday travel when they are digging up the tracks.

HOWEVER the only dates in April that can be booked yet are the weekend of the 3rd April - when there isn't any such disruption between London & Bath.

Could OP provide a few more details - website they are using as well as date & time of travel

If you have stumbled on a day with engineering works and can't move your date of travel, there are a couple of trains a day from Waterloo (good tube line from Paddingtom to Waterloo) that take a different route and almost certainly avoid whatever engineering's going on.

Tell the website of your choice (at the Advanced Search page) you want a direct train and want to avoid Paddington.

If there is a hard way of doing things - I will find it.
I went thru google earth to get the distance from London and then went on to get the rail times. I didnt mention a date so that cant be the reason, but there is a way of getting to Bath from London that takes over 4 hours.
