Has anyone seen A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum? at the National Theatre Olivier? Anyone know that theatre? My husband and i want to bring our 2 teenage sons to a play in June. just checking to see if the theatre is nice, etc. Our second thought was Fame at the Aldwych. Thanks!

I haven't seen the play, but I have been to the Olivier. It is a nice theatre located on South Bank. I will definitely go there again. From time to time they put tickets for sale online for 10 GBP. I was able to get a front row seat for that price. The website is nationaltheatre.org.uk

Anything at the National Theatre is usually excellent. There are three theaters there, and they are all lovely - much more comfortable than the West End cluster.
That side of the river is also where the hugh ferris wheel is. I forget what it's called, but you can see the whole city from it. It goes very slowly, and you can take pictures.

A Funny Thing does not open until July 9th. It runs in repertory with other productions at the National Theatre. Go to www.london-theatre.com and you can check all current and upcoming productions in London. There's a link to the National Theatre.

My sister lives in London. She said the production of Cole Porter's "Anything Goes" at the Drury Lane got rave reviews and it's been playing awhile, so tickets shouldn't be hard to get.

Why go to London to see an old, American musical?
Unfortunately, about the only musical playing in London that doesn't have U.S. roots or an American production is "Jerry Springer, the Opera." And, as truly wonderful as it is, unless you are extremely broadminded, I doubt you want to bring your sons to see this one.
But if you're willing to settle for a straight play, the selections are somewhat better. And best of all might be a Shakespeare production at the Globe. An afternoon at the wonderful recreation of Shakespeare's theater is history and entertainment combined and you are welcome to bring your lunch and dine during the performance just as they did in Shakespeare's day.

I saw Anything Goes last month. It was OK, but my least favorite show of the 6 I saw on that trip.

On the other hand, the people sitting near me seemed to enjoy it much more than I.
