London- Summer 2023
I'd appreciate some suggestions from recent UK travelers, as we haven't been in a long time. I'll post separately for our other stops.
Since we've been to London twice before, we'll be trying to see some things we missed and repeat a few that we really enjoyed. We may also see a West End show, if we feel COVID-safe enough. It's nearly a year from now, so who knows?
We would appreciate suggestions on
-- London hotels in the Westminster area which are walkable to Buckingham Palace, the Churchill War Rooms, the London Eye, etc. We will also take the Tube as necessary (Shakespeare's Globe, Docklands Museum) but hope to be close to some sites. Budget is somewhat flexible, but hoping to stay under 500/night.
Looking at the Conrad Hilton St. James in London which is pricey but will consider since we would earn Hilton points. If you stayed there and had lounge access, what was on offer for breakfast?
-- Feedback from those who may have taken the International Friends Small Group Tour from London to Highclere and the Downtown Abbey film locations.
Thank you in advance!

The Conrad is great if it fits in your budget. Very nice property, walking distance to tons of stuff, and almost on top of the St James's Park tube station. I've eaten (twice) and had drinks in the hotel but not stayed there.

Westminster is a pricey area in a pricey city and I haven't stayed there. If you want to go easier on your budget, take a look at hotels around the Earl's Court and Gloucester Rd tube stations. It's more of a hike from there to the west end but it's doable. These two stations also have the advantage of being on the Piccadilly tube line. That line takes you right to some of the central destinations you're interested in. Plus, you can take it all the way out to LHR without a change. Nice if you're flying in or out that way.

Stayed at the Conrad St James this past September for four nights and loved the location! We walked to most locations (Big Ben, Churchill War Rooms, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, British Museum, Courtauld, theaters..), took the tube (St James Park station across the street) to the Tower and used the Uber boat to Greenwich from Westminster Pier. We also had Hilton points and used the lounge on the first floor for breakfast. Small buffet with lots of cold options and good coffee. The hotel was sold-out (just happened to be in London during the Queen's memorial), so no upgrades available, but our standard room was more than adequate with a large bathroom. We did not eat dinner at the hotel or use the lounge for evening snacks. Better dining options nearby for dinner provided by the concierge. Enjoy your time in London!
