London stuatue on London Walks?

Help! We loved our guided tours a couple years ago, but the name/story of a statue we saw has escaped me. The statue was dark metal or iron, atop a stone square pedestal, of men with nooses who had just been freed. Something about a French leader maybe? Thanks for your help. Sue

there is a casting of Rodin's 'Burghers of Calais' in Victoria Tower Gardens on the river next to Parliament. Is that where your walk took you??
