London-Scotland-Amsterdam-Bruges
We are planning to travel to london-scotland-amsterdam-bruges around May/june time frame with my then 2.5 yr old toddler.
Flying from chicago to Amsterdam Spend 3 days in Amsterdam Take the train to Bruges Spend 2 days in Bruges Fly from Bruges to London Spend 4 days in London Take the train from london to Scotland Spend 3 days in Scotland Take the train back to London Spend a day and fly back home. Please provide any suggestions or recommendations. |
Fly from Bruges to London>
That would be Brussels probably and Brussels to London is just 2 hours on Eurostar trains - quicker than flying as city center to city center - book early as www.eurostar.com for discounted tickets. Makes no sense to fly and going thru the Channel Tunnel is neat too. Total time by train would be about 4 hours max Bruges-London - flying would be more as you'd still have to take train to Brussels and then out to airport and then get in from London airports, etc. London-Scotland trains book early too for serious discounts - https://www.virgintrainseastcoast.co...nburgh-trains/ there is a night train also Edinburgh-London and v.v. - https://www.sleeper.scot/ Get a private compartment and bring any food or drink aboard. For loads of great info on trains check www.seat61.com - super advice on booking discounted tickets - for general info www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com. |
Too much moving around. Pick fewer destinations. You cannot travel with a toddler as you would with just yourself or you and your significant other. Toddlers have specific needs and will balk at this manic schedule.
Choose fewer places and rewrite the itinerary. |
Fly home from Edinburgh.

Have you counted your time correctly? Three days in Amsterdam means you need to spend 4 nights there, etc.
|
How many days/nights do you have in total?
Counting 'days' can be misleading. As kathie says 3 days = 4 nights, 4 days = 5 nights etc. You need to account for all the travel time. That is a LOT of moving around, especially with a small child. And you say '3 days in Scotland'. Scotland is a big country - do you mean 3 days (4 nights) in Edinburgh, or in some other part of Scotland? Even IF you keep all the places on your list you really need to rearrange them. Do it this way: Amsterdam > Bruges by train: Fly from Brussels to Scotland (either GLA or EDI depending on where you want to go in Scotland) ; Train to London; Fly home from there. By doing this you eliminate the extra packing/unpacking/traveling making your plan more doable. |
How many days will it take a 2.5 y.o. to adjust to the time change? Will naps still be a part of the daily routine?
