London, safety
I will be in London in a few weeks.
I was wondering how safe it is to walk alone at night. When I go to Manhatten I walk at all hours, nearly everywhere without problem. In London I will primarily be in Notting Hill, Soho and in the popular areas along the Thames. I am male. If I spend all my time in those areas are there great parts of London that I will be missing? |
I am a female and walk alone at night around London-in particular the theatre area and around Soho and have done so for many years. The apartment I stay in is in Soho
|
Those parts of London are very safe.
Re: Notting Hill. The parts you are likely to want to go to are fine - but be a bit carefull. It's easy enough to find yourself in Ladbroke Grove which isn't so nice. Soho is laughably safe. You might get wolf whistled or have your dress sense criticised but that's about it. |
Soho, Notting Hill and parts of the Thames....is that all you plan to see? If so, yes I think you'll be missing interesting parts of London.

Sally,
Thanks for the reply. I am in London for two days on the back of a trip to the Middle East. I am interested in seeing the best neighborhoods in London, more than seeing the big tourist spots. Any suggestions for those areas would be appreciated. |
It depends what you like, what your lifestyle is - ie night owl or aesthete, foodie or beer monster?
|
My lifestyle:
bookstores, jazz clubs, coffee houses, art galleries, active late at night, but not big time partying. |
Then you'll love Soho.

Bugger - pushed send too quickly
You'll also really like Fitzrovia - the area to the north of Soho. |
