London restaurants reservation

I will be in England for 5 days this May, and would like to know how I can a reserve a table for me and my boyfriend at such popular eateries as Le Caprice, Club Gascon and Moody Goose in Bath. Do I really have to call them directly? Also, how much should I tip at these restaurants?
Thanks.

Yes, call the restaurant, or search online for their email addresses. I made reservations at the Ivy last year by email with no problems. Tip 10%.

Almost all hotels will be happy to arrange dinner reservations for their guests.

There are several websites where you can make reservations. (no personal experience) www.toptable.co.uk is one

On the tipping question, many restaurants are now placing a "suggestead" tip on the total bill of 12.5%.I usually just round this up to 15% and leave it at that.

Hi lovejoy,
Is this 'suggested tip' in addition to a 'service charge'?

In the UK, a service charge isn't usually added to the bill except in the case of large parties, and this is made clear on the menu. But to be on the safe side, check the bill to see if a "suggested" charge has been added.

Oops - maybe I am too provincial - this article suggests that in London at least, service charges are becoming the norm

http://www.portowebbo.co.uk/nottingh...ing-served.htm
