Ben, looks like your generous offer has put you in the business!! Maybe you should rethink about posting it here -- possibly as a separate post. Sounds like a lot of people would like to have it, myself included.

Bumbles is an excellent choice for the local cuisine experience--small, quaint, traditional British dinners excellently prepared. We had dinner there September 1, 2002, just a couple of months ago. It didn't look as if it had undergone any renovation to me, unless they painted the outside. We, too, stayed at the Ruebens down the street. Bumbles was recommended to us by the concierge.

Thank you all for the great information. I am finally going to London! It has been my "dream" trip for almost 30 years. My husband and I have been to Europe but missed out on London. I am new to this site and if y'all don't mind I'd like some advise. We are going in March and am wondering what shoes/clothes to take. Should I wear jeans & sweaters most of the time? Is a heavy coat too much? Would a pair of Clarks, Born or Merrill casual shoes be good for walking in London?

The timeout also has a set of Restaurant reviews. I've made up a list of interesting ones for my honeymoon, where we're going to do a theme... a different nationality of restaurant every night! If you want it, I'll email it to you...

I also highly recommend Wagamama. They have lots and lots of locations now (go to www.wagamama.com), and for me one of the best things is that it is non-smoking. After a few days in London eating in smoky places, Wagamama is a nice respite.

If you're into Indian food, there is also what my husband and I started calling the Wagamama of Indian food, Masala Zone. It is also non-smoking, and is very modern/clean looking inside (ie: Ikea). Very accessible Indian food. We also ate at Rajdoot in the Marylebone area -- very good, much more authentic Indian cuisine. In some ways, I really preferred Masala Zone because it was unlike anything I found at home (we have some fairly good authentic Indian restaurants in California, but not as much "nouvelle" Indian as Masala Zone).

You may also want to check over at www.egullet.com for restaurant forums.

Also, if your rate at the Millenium Bailey is refundable, you may consider trying to priceline a room. We got back on Monday and had pricelined a room for US$70 at the Royal Horseguards Hotel. Great location, nice hotel, would highly recommend it.

Have fun!!!

The international boards at Chowhound.com have a TON of London tips. Do a search within the site. You won't be disappointed.

Lisa

Kristina,I have also booked the Royal Horseguards through Priceline for seven nights next Month.I also got a great deal $65.00 a night. How was your room? Did you feel that you were treated well as a Priceline customer?Did you make a specific bed request in advance of your stay directly with the hotel,or did you take what they offered you at check-in.
Thank You...

Kristina Jan 26th, 2003 09:21 PM

Mark, our room at the Horseguards was nice. It was on the 8th floor, with eaves and lots of character. I would, however, recommend the rooms on the lower floors, as they seem to have been redone more recently. I was treated fine as a PL customer, except that we had requested a non-smoking room and did not get one. Our friends were also there on a PL rate and had a lower floor (5th floor) non-smoking room which was much nicer. They evidently asked if there were any nicer rooms available or if there were any upgrades available, and got this nicer room. Overall, I was satisfied with our stay. The hotel generally goes for GBP 110+, and is tastefully furnished and ideally located.

I can recommend some on-line sources that might be helpful in preparations for travelling to London:www.fun-in-london.com, www.travellondon.com, www.frontdesk.co.uk, www.londontransport.co.uk, www.londonpass.com, www.travelbritain.org and www.ticketsto.com.
I also found the great rate hotel from the Thistle chain very close to Buckingham Palace and Abbey like a few block apart only. It is called Thistle Victoria and cost me $76.50/night/single room booked on-line at www.thistlehotels.com/thistlevictoria - the price already includes taxes and will be charged once you check out from the hotel.
I am leaving soon and thank You all for your inputs, guys.
