I'm struggling to decide which hotel to stay outside of Mayfair/Piccadily area. I hope some of you have stayed or passed by this hotel and can tell me about its location. Is the location comfortable/convenient for strolling/wandering. We don't like very busy hectic boulevards

The Renaissance is located very close to the Holborn Tube stop and is in a more or less (depending on your definition) "business" or "financial" area. This may not be compatible with your own definition of what is good for "strolling and wandering" especially after, or even during, business hours.

The hotel itself is in a former insurance company building.

It is not in any way, shape, or form "tucked away" on any sort of "side street."

Again, I suggest you read the reviews before making any final decisions.

Agree w/Dukey on Chancery Court. Very nice hotel, convenient but but used mainly for business travellers. Limited restaurants after dark/weekend (though Matsuri across the street is v.good). Walking distance to the west end theatres though.

St. Martin's Lane is right in the middle of Covent Garden. Very trendy restaurant and bar inside the hotel. Lots to stroll around, though rather touristy.

Millenium Knightsbridge--also used for business breakfast meetings, hedge fund meetings. On Sloan square, also convenient but only marginally less crowded/touristy vs St. Martin's Lane.

While none of the above hotels are on what I would consider quiet side street, all are not really that "hectic" neighbourhoods.

Thanks Dukey & W9. We just don't want to walk out of the hotel on a busy street and got run over by the London doubledecker (LOL). I suppose I haven't picked the quietest locations. I did check the tripadvisor briefly. Do you have any comparable hotel suggestions? We do plan to see the Soane(spelling) museum which is close by to the Renaissance, but we can easily stay in Covent Garden/Kensington.

Thge Renaissance has a courtyard arrangement so you aren't walking right onto the busy High Holborn thoroughfare.

Now, if you want to stay in a reaal understated but upscale place on a quite street in Covent Garden but without the ability to change the "mood" of your room as in the St. Martins Lane, you can consider the Covent Garden Hotel.

Service is fabulous but you'll PAY plenty for it.

Thanks Dukey. The Covent Garden costs as much as the Ritz, though probably more comfortable than the Ritz (less formal/snooty factor). We don't want to spend that much as we are stopping in London just to wind down and do nothing after a long road trip in Provence. We are city people so we like to linger a bit in big cities.

I think I'm narrowing my choices to the Renaissance or Millenium Knightbridge. Which one would you choose if you had to choose?
