London question about location
 

For us my wife 65 and 72 years old when we travel more importantly is that this well located hotel full of life and people around, shops, restaurants, etc and is easy to move around. Which of these two hotels Holiday Inn in London would be adjusted more to us?
Holiday Inn Kings Cross 1 Kings Cross Road WC1X 9HX or Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury Coram Street, London WC1N 1HT

Hi Pamlover, ONLY looking at google maps, the two hotels seem to be in the same general area but, the Bloomsbury location looks much closer to the Russell Square Tube station. Will that make a difference to you?

Also, if you google the precise addresses, you will see more shops closer to Bloomsbury also.

Others with first-hand info can weigh in.

Both are well located but I would personally prefer the Bloomsbury HI. It is less than a block from Russell Sq tube station. The kings cross property is very convenient for transport but is in a VERY busy, congested location.

Oops - I misspoke. The kings cross HI is not at kings cross station as I assumed (and you know where that gets you ;) )

The Russell Sq location is better.

The farther away from seedy hectic King's Cross itself the better IME.

In this case spectacularly wrong

About the time PalQ last visited Britain (clue: George V was on the throne), people with no knowledge of London used to call KX seedy. The immediate area around the station is now exploding: new theatres, major research institutes, thriving street food scene most of the week, new parks, major transport infrastructure, museums better than most entire cities.

Holiday inn KX is getting on for a mile away, though. In a dull, featureless area half way between the explosion at KX/St Pancras and a new explosion in the process of creation around Farringdon stations. Not a difficult walk for youngsters Pamlover's age: but absolutely not "full of life and people around, shops, restaurants, etc"

If the choice is just two hotels, the Bloomsbury one gets far the closer to the poster's criteria.

HI Bloomsbury is definitely the better location (although the location of the HI Kings Cross is not seedy as suggested above).

The Bloomsbury HI is in a relatively quiet but only a 15 min walk to the restaurants around Holborn and around 20-25 to Covent Garden which is very lively.. (Red Lion St is closer worth checking out for restaurants). Russell Sq tube is close by and is on the Piccadilly Line which is great for the West End and connections to the rest of London.
