London Pubs Closing Time? And Carnets?etrnet

Hello All, I know this is 2 separate topics, BUT, have the pub's closing time changed yet? I read in the "Irreverant Guide to London"(one of my favs) that they were in the process of changing the time for closing the pubs, 11:00 pm. I am interested in having a post-theater pint OR SO. Also, has anyone purchases the new "carnet" for the Tubes? Is it better than the travelcard? Just curious, ;-) Judy

As far as I know, pub closing times have not changed yet, it's still 11.00 Monday to Saturday and 10.30 on Sunday.

However, many bars/clubs have late licences - until 2 in the morning, sometimes. I think they have to offer either dancing or food, or both.

Also, your hotel bar may be open after 11.00 for residents, or you may be able to get night porter service.

Bought the carnet last winter. I used all but two tickets, which were good for a year, so I used them this fall.
I've used the Travelcard also; it all depends on how many underground trips you take and when. If you plan to be in London on a weekend, the weekend pass is a real bargain. You can also mix and match, for example: weekend pass then a carnet to share.

straight forward pubs shut at eleven, although many operate an unnoficial (and illegal)"lock-in" service for regulars. As you probably won't be regulars, and tourist pubs don't do this, you would be better off finding out whre you can get a legal drink.

Your hotel can sell you drink until you fall over.

Clubs can stay open all night. CAsinos serve until three, and many bars stay open till 12 or one.

It really depends on how old you are, what you're looking for and where in the country you are. If yopuu could be a bit more specific, I might be able to help.

NB I left the pub at three O'Clock last night. Day off today. So it can be done.

Thanks all for the info! God, I was looking at my post, and I realized it looks as if I was half stoned....(was not, just in a hurry)sorry about that! Elvira: I like that idea(plus the weekend travelcard),,,,buy a "carnet" and one has to return to London to get full use of it!!! Very sneaky.... David: Just 2 fun loving "baby boomers" out listening to tunes, having a post-theater pint or so(pints hold back the years, I'm told). We will be in the Bloomsbury area??? Elizabeth: as always, you are a great source for info. Keep it coming! Judy :-)
