London Pre-Booking
We are travelling to London late June for 6 nites. (Hotel- Hilton Park Lane - HH freebie). We plan to do major sites in London with a daytrip to Hampton Court. Our first 'real' trip to London.
What sites etc is it worthwhile pre-booking? Queen's Gallery? Tower? Hampton? etc etc Or should we just wing it? Or book when we hit London? Thanks for your suggestions . . . |
Not much need to pre-book for the places you mentioned, but if you plan on going to the London Dungeons (which you should!) It's best to get your tickets a couple of days in advance.

hi
the above advice about the London Dungeon might be a troll or a joke, but the general consenus on this message board is that it is not worth the time or money. My own opinion is that it is one of the worst tourist traps around. Child-travelers have said the same. I don't think you can pre book for the Tower (except for the evening Ceremony of the Keys) and you wouldn't need to do it for most London sites anyway. You can buy advance tickets for the Tower in many Tube stations, but if you go first thing in the morning you can get through the line quickly anyway. Some here can give you advice about booking tickets for the London Eye, if that's in your plans. I have a file on London; if you'd like to see it, email me. |

I've been to London several times and have never prebooked anything with the exception of the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London (have to send off for tickets in advance) and theatre tickets for shows I really, really wanted to see.
Even for things like the London Eye which some people do prebook (which we walked right on last July), you can wait until you get there. Definitely do not have to prebook for places like the Tower of London or Hampton Court. And I've heard some buzz about the Art Deco show at the V&A, you might do a search here if that interests you and get some advice on prebooking for that. |
Thanks to all, that's what I needed to know.
Elaine: Your London doc is amazing. Kristi: Good tip about the Art Deco show - it will still be on. |
Just another thought: If you are going to the Tower and Hampton Court, I believe you can buy a combined ticket that will save you a little money, and they are good for different days.
Have fun! Karen |
