London to ?? to Barcelona in September

I am planning a trip that begins in London Sept. 13 and ends in Barcelona on September 28. I plan to be in London until Sept. 18 or 19 and end with 4 days in Barcelona. I have been to Rome and Paris and want to explore another city between my stops in London and Barcelona. i plan to fly between destinations. I am starting my trip by dropping my son off for his study abroad program in London and will be traveling on my own afterward. I would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks in advance!

What sort of things do/did you enjoy most and least about Rome and Paris? What sort of things would you hope to enjoy in [whichever destination]? That might prompt more ideas than relying on what we like about different places.

Assuming you're on foot, Amsterdam.

Lyon - Aix en provence - Avignon.

Zaragoza.

24th September is La Merce, the feast day of Barcelona's patron saint, with lots of special events, so try to be in Barcelona on that day.

Amsterdam is wonderful, as is Berlin. Or Lisbon & Porto. Or somewhere else in Spain: Madrid, Seville & Granada.....

You can fly to Madrid, take the AVE (high speed train) to Zaragoza and then on to Barcelona.

From Avignon it would also be train to Barcelona (from Lyon train or plane)
