London package tours ?

My wife and I are planning to spend about a week in London in early October. Does anyone know of a good source for a package tour which would include hotel and airfare from San Francisco ? Thanks. Jim in Sacramento

Any specific reason you want a package? London is probably the easiest place in all of Europe to make your own arrangements. Most packages really don' save you much if any money and you choice of flights, hotels, etc is very limited.

If it is high-end hotels you want - London is a great city for using Priceline. But even w/o Priceline you can get all sorts of special rates directly from hotel websites ot several goos hotel booking sites.

All that being said - some "theatre break" type packages from Virgin Atlantic or other airlines are sometimes a decent bargain. But you can still usually do it cheaper on your own and have a wider choice of hotels and plays.

janis - in sacramento too :-)

You might want to sign up with British Airways. They will email you notice of their airfare and hotel sales. We got a fare of $300 round trip from Phoenix to London at the end of March, then later picked up a very nice hotel for 77 GPB/night. If you belong to the Executive Club (no charge or minimum mileage) you can also check in on-line 24 hours early and change seats - they seem to open up a lot of seats at that time - and also avoid the long check in lines (especially in London) by going to the express check-in.

British Airways has had some great package deals to London. We went early last October. I can't remember the exact airfare, but we got a hotel in a great neighborhood for $82 a night.

I know my parents got a great package on Expedia for last September, so that is also worth checking out.

Check with the vacation department of your favorite airline. They may have a good package, and you will get bonus FF miles.
