London-Oxford by train
 

Can anyone give me information on train to go from London to Oxford . <BR>Which train station? <BR>The price for a ticket London-Oxford-London same day?What about ticket "cheap day return"? Is there a big difference between normal ticket and cheap day return ticket? Thanks

Check www.railtrack.com for schedules and fares. There are several trains a day, leaving from Paddington Station in London, to Oxford Main (and sole) station. No need to book in advance. Usually, fares are cheaper outside standard commuters hours.

I recommend you take the bus. Day returns on Oxford Citylink are less than 10 pounds and leave from Victoria.

The London departure station is Paddington, for Oxford. There are two or three trains per hour, and the journey time is about 65 minutes. <BR>Cheap Day Returns are considerably cheaper, but usually only valid for departures from London after 0930 approx. However the full fare will be quite reasonable if you wish to leave earlier. The trains are quick and comfortable.

I agree with Wendy, having done both train and bus. The bus is much cheaper, leaving from Victoria Coach Station (close to Victoria Train Station) and are really just as fast. Every train I have taken required either a stop or a change in Reading, and considering this the bus is a good option. Plus, the bus takes you to the Oxford Coach Station which is closer to city center than the train station, so this may save you a bit in taxi fare. The train station is a pretty healthy walk to city center. <BR> <BR>If you are interested, there are some tour companies located at the coach station that offer resonably priced van tours (small groups 4-6 people) of the Cotswalds and villages. We did one of those and it was very enjoyable. <BR> <BR>Enjoy Oxford, no matter how you get there, as it is most interesting.

Hi, no quarrel witht the recommendation for the bus, although I thought the train was about 20 minutes faster than the coach, perhaps check the current schedules. <BR>The Oxford Green and Yellow tour companies are also located at the train station I believe. <BR>The bus (coach) from Victoria Station for the Oxford bus station leaves daily about every 20 minute <BR>I believe there is also the "Oxford tube", an express coach. Every 20 minutes, 24 hours per day. This company offers daily half day tours to Blenheim as well as walking tours of Oxford. Reservations should be made in advance. The Blenheim tour bus meets some of the incoming trains at the Oxford train station which come from London's Paddington. <BR>If you're a do-it-yourselfer, <BR>there is a very good suggested walking tour of Oxford and a map of the city center in the book <BR>"Day Trips London" by Steinbicker. <BR> <BR>
