London or Barcelona for NYE?? Help!

Ok I know they are both very very different. First some background: I am meeting a friend for a romantic rendezvous and we can't decide if we want to do London or Barcelona. I will be coming form LAX Dec 25-Jan 1 with work bright an early January 2nd (ugh).

London Pros:
He lives there so we save in flights
He knows his way around, where to stay etc.
I've always wanted to recreate Love Actually
I don't hate the cold, neither does he

London Cons:
He wants to try something new
London hotels

Barcelona Pros:
It WILL be a lot warmer
New to both of us

Barcelona Cons:
Longer flight for me, with connections whereas London is nonstop
May be more expensive total with my flight plus his, plus hotels

THOUGHTS?? I appreciate it!!

Rosie

I have been in Barcelona for NYE and it was 8 degrees C. We had a fun meal at a restaurant on Las Ramblas.

Barcelona is warmer, but the one time I was there for the New Year, it didn't seem as though as many places were open for people to celebrate together - as though they were more likely to be at home with family and friends.

London pubs and restaurants would likely be rammed with people, and often bookings might be required (and door charges in quite a lot of popular central London pubs), but they will at least be open.

[I'm happy to be corrected if my impressions were atypical]

BARCELONA=booked!! Yay!

Wow thanks so much for your responses! Rebelfone- great to-do list I can't wait to explore the city and hit some of the things on that list. I have an iPhone and want to bring it, so can I get an international SIM card here in US?

qwovadis- I love that movie!! Also, you have helped me with my Italy trip in the past so thanks again for your input here as well.

PatrickLondon-I guess its all in a case by case basis, I'd rather avoid crowds anyways so Barca seems like the better fit.

domibay- Are there games Dec 25-Jan 1st, there may be a break due to the holiday.

THANK YOU ALL SOOO MUCH! Can't wait!

Hope you copied both the deleted posts if you think they might have useful info.

Both were nuked because they were advertisers -- one for rebelfone and one for a hotel booking site. Likely neither will be back to post.
