London Open Air Theatre
 

The Open Air Theatre in Regents Park offers shows in the afternoon and evening.
I am going to book tickets for the last day we are in London and would prefer to book the afternoon show but am wondering it the experience would be far less dramatic in broad daylight, rather than dusk and dark.

Any input appreciated~ the show is Sound of Music.

I personally prefer the evening not necessarily for 'dramatic effect' but because there are other sightseeing/activities one can do during the day. I seldom go to even brick and mortar theatre matinees except in the dead of winter when I don't mind being indoors during the day.

But the open air Theatre can be quite cool/damp in the evening.

But IME/IMO it mainly depends on what else you might want to squeeze in on your last day in London.

I'm in London with my college age granddaughter for 8 full days but already have a pretty full schedule between reserved teas at a few museums, "Billy Elliot", day trip to Salisbury and Stonehenge, Houses of Parliament tour.

I happened to be completing my list of bookstores to visit when Primrose Hill bookstore led me to look at that area. I wish I had thought of this theatre earlier, but now I only have the last day without something booked already.

Thanks, Janis, I think I will just risk the daylight hours if I can figure out the seating.
We leave California tomorrow..so this is just last minute panic planning.

I love the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park. On a fine summer evening, it's hard to beat. The Sound of Music is fantastic. It's classic, but with some changes compared to the movie.
Go, even if it's for the matinee.
It's a small theatre, even the less expensive seats are ok. I think there are no really bad seats. Food is quite good too.

Bookstores: don't miss Daunt Books in Marylebone High Street. John Sandoe in Chelsea is interesting too - piled to the roof with books, but interesting browsing.

Did you leave time for your college-age granddaughter to visit Topshop on Oxford Circus? Speaking from experience here :-)
