London: Old Spitalfields Market & Surrounding Area

Hello.

Is Spitalfields Market worth a visit?

I see that the food market at Spitalfields is only open on Wednesday and Sundays. We will only be able to visit on the Wednesday, which will be our first (jetlag) day in London. Could we manage to find the place without getting lost? How long of a trip is it from the Green Park or Piccadilly line?

Are there any other markets that you can recommend that specialize in food stuffs and other interesting items?

Thank you so much!

For food stuff, borough Market shall be the most interesting one, but only open (for retails)on Friday afternoon and Saturday, the nearest station is London Bridge.

I have visited Spitalfields Market only on weekend, mainly clothes and stuff, with couple food booths. The nearest station is Liverpool Street, no direct tube line, but bus #8 from Green Park (Piccadilly) direct over there, takes about 40 minutes, depends on the traffic.

Oh, Thank You JudyC! Borough Market seems to have much more to offer.

We could actually visit Borough Market on Saturday morning before heading to Cambridge. It would be a perfect place to pick up flowers and other treats for my S&BIL and nephews.

If you do visit Borough Market on Saturday, don't miss the toasted cheese sandwich by Neal's Yard cheese store.
