The title says it all. There is another "eye" in the grounds of the Old Naval College in Greenwich.

So another reason to visit Greenwich (other than the possibility of meeting me at work!)

The Greenwich Beer Festival starts in the same place on the 16th.

Combine the two - it could be fun.

Be careful what you wish for!!!!
Actually, I suspect it could be quite delightful and i am absolutely certain it would foster world peace, international understanding, and so forth.
Now, if we could just get Flanner involved in this I'd even PAY for the meal!

I was looking at the wheel on Friday as I was having a drink after work - it was doing its "practice" rounds I think.
Anyone happen to know if this is the same wheel that was in Hyde Park over New Year for the Winter Festival they had?

wherever flimflanner is let's hope he stays there
Anyway Greenwich is such a wondrous place to go Eye or no Eye and new Eye will just make it better - should be a great view of the Thames - Greenwich Park, the Docklands, etc.
I am always amazed when i traipse thru the War College's former buildings - now some kind of college and the museum part and the park, observatory, Cutty Sark (being rebuilt i guess after a fire) and the Thames front, the town itself - the market - Greenwich to me was a 3-star site and now even more.
I suggest hopping the Docklands Light Railway or DLR to go at least one way - this elevated automated (in theory) People Mover slices thru the amazing new Docklands/Canary Wharf extravaganza before burrowing under the Thames to Greenwich.
I suggest getting off at Mudchute or Island Gardens before the Thames tunnel and taking the old Greenwich foot tunnel under the Thames for the unique experience - 1800s Victorian tunnel and all.

But anyone following PQ's advice should be aware that there will be some disruption while they lengthen platforms for longer trains on the DLR. Until the end of August, there will be one-way working on the stretch down to Greenwich and therefore a much reduced service.

Good tip from Patrick about disruption and also in any case you should avoid the DLR during rush hours IME when the trains become very very SRO when the zillions of workers going to and fro Canary Wharf area pile on and off.
Hopefully longer trains will help alleviate that. And during rush hour the trains cease becoming driverless - as a driver sitting next to me in the driver's seat at the very front on the train told me when he took over the controls from the automatic system.

I don't think Flanneur goes south of the river...
Come on peeps, a big wheel, a beer festival, a pub with strippers, two gay bars and the worst restaurant known to humanity. What more do you want?

The Greenwich wheel seems to be similar in size to the one erected in Windor last year as a temporary attraction.
That one was lovely, and had nicely heated seats in the pods.
Nicely heated seats will probably not be needed except for about half the days this one is in place.

1. As you observe, it's sarf of the river
2. It's a bloody beer festival. I'll still be recovering from the one my local primary school puts on (that wasn't a misprint) a couple of days before. So travelling halfway round the globe to listen to CAMRA members boring for both hemispheres about OG and straight glasses...
3. Ferris wheels. Aren't they just SO 2000?
4. What HAS got into PalQ? See what happens if you go mainlining Dulux, boys and girls? You think a tin of gloss here, the odd PaintPod of matt emulsion on a Saturday night. You can handle it. But 99.9% of all sad gits started off with Brilliant White Eggshell.
Don't be taken in by that old English sheepdog (or "bleeding intellectual" as the flannerpooch astutely describes him)in the ads. Just say No! to paint.
