You don't give us much to work with -- but just based on your OP, Southwark is a much better location for visitors. However, some 'Southwark' locations really aren't - some do fib when describing their location. Where are you actually considering?

They are both holiday inn express properties

Of the two, Southwark for sure. Are you only looking at HIE? How about other IHG properties in London? What dates?

The HIE Southwark is in a very good location near Tate Modern, the Globe, the river and on a good bus route that connects the Tower of London and Trafalgar Square.

The HIE Limehouse is in a pretty bad location for tourists (semi-OK if you are say working in Canary Wharf - but lousy for sightseeing)

(Next time it would help if you provide information like postal codes/address/hotel name)

Ok thanks it will be next November.

Just as a general hint, don't rely on neighbourhood names: marketing people will choose the one that's perceived to be higher in the local hierarchy of atteactiveness. Use the postcode and check it out on Google Street view.

But in this case, the Holiday Inn in Limehouse is in a fairly featureless, workaday sort of area beside a main traffic artery. Nothing dangerous about the area, just not that geared up to giving visitors a good time.

The one in Southwark is much more central, well located for public transport, being on the RV1 bus route, and the whole of the South Bank on the doorstep.

No contest, I'd have thought.

Thanks for the expert help. That is what I thought also.

You can use Google Maps to see what is handy in either locale.

Stayed here and this is exactly correct (didn’t know about the bus though). Staff is very nice, free coffee/ tea /milk all day. AC and insulated, quiet windows. Fabulous train service access for Gatwick and St Pancras via Thameslink steps away.

>>didn’t know about the bus though<<

It would have been very useful for you . . . Taking the RV1 gets you across the river to either the Tower area or Trafalgar Sq/Covent Garden much easier than the tube.
