London; Mayfair Chesterfield
 

I'm planning to stay at the Mayfair Chesterfield for a couple of nights in the late spring. I've booked a superior double/leisure (jr. suites were twice as much). I was wondering if anyone has stayed at this hotel recently? I was wondering about service and the rooms -- size, decor, ammenities and so on. Any feedback would be appreciated. FYI--I tried a number of 4 star properties in Mayfair. This was the only one I could get for under 200.00 GBP per night!

The Connaught is far cheaper. When enquiring for long-term stays (I have major refurbishment underway in my house so have had to move out temporarily) I found the Chesterfield most unobliging. Speak to The Connaught which is superior in all ways.

When I say far cheaper, I mean more or less the same price, but it's like comparing Champagne to Cava.

m_kingdom, Thank you... Thank you... Thank you... I just got off the phone with The Connaught. Amazing!!! They could not have been kinder. I was able to book a Superior Queen Room at 189.00 for two of the nights and at 209.00 for the third night. What a treat! I never would have thought to try.

I'm pleased they were obliging... it's a very classic property and similar in size to the Chesterfield but far superior. I hope you enjoy your stay! Let me know if you're like recommendations for anything else in London!

I dont know if you are in for a shock or not but both the Chesterfield and the Connaught (in my experience) do not normally include the VAT when quoting rates. I would check if they will be expecting an additional 17 1/2 % when you check out.

Eitherway though, The Connaught is still "cheaper" and far superior. I don't believe any London hotel includes VAT when issuing a quote - certainly none of the deluxe properties.

Stayed at the Mayfair Chesterfield for a week back in March (pleasure trip). Can't say enough good things - Plenty of space in the room - well decorated and very clean. Wonderful, helpful staff (they were everywhere!) Excellent continental breakfast. 5 minute walk from Green Park tube station

Thanks Bigal.I was aware that the quoted rates did not include VAT. M_Kingdom2 is right. None of the deluxe London properties include VAT when quoting rate. The only one who did was the Cavendish and they were almost as expensive as The Connaught. I

My husband and I stayed at the Chesterfield 12 years ago and absolutely loved it! The room was small but clean and elegant. One aspect of its charm for me though, is that it was the London townhouse of Lord Chesterfield (of the letters/Samuel Johnson fame). We had a particularly good deal at the time - a coupon from our Entertainment book for half-price! Wish we could find another coupon like that one! Enjoy your visit to London!

I have stayed at the Chesterfield Mayfair on my last 4 trips to London. It is a lovely hotel with a first class staff. Rooms are extremely clean, beautifully decorated. Smallish by American standards, average by European standards - BUT with two closets, ample drawers and shelves, so all our items were all stored away and the room very neat & tidy - not at all cramped. Last year we had a superior king for 149 BS, inclusive of vat & full english breakfast. (We had drinks at the Connaught - lovely, but expensive). I wouldn't stay anywhere else in London.

We were favorably impressed with the Chesterfield Mayfair...agree that the rooms were smallish, but well-decorated and equiped. And the staff was very attentive, without being pushy.

Location of this hotel is excellent: far enough up into Mayfair to get away from busy Picadilly, yet only about 5+ minute walk from Green Park Tube. Nearby streets have some pubs and restaurants too (like the Running Footman pub down and across the street). Hotel is on a side street with a bit less traffic than some.

Thank you all for the feedback. I'm sure the Chesterfield is wonderful. That's why I came very close to staying there. That said, when I got a rate a the Connaught which was comparable there was no choice. I couldn't resist. Happy Holidays everyone. Lizzie-
