London Marriotts - need help
 

We'll be staying in London in Sept. using Marriott points and would like to know about the following 4 hotels (room size, comfort, service, location, ease of getting around, etc.)<BR>1) Park Lane<BR>2) Grovesnor<BR>3) County Hall<BR>4) Kensington<BR><BR>Would appreciate any info from those of you who have stayed at any of them or know of their location &amp; reputation.<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR><BR>Sherryl

County Hall Marroitt is al lovely hotel in a very central location for touring London. Short walks to Waterloo or Westminster tube stations and close to plenty of central London tourist spots.

Are you the same person who asked this identical question a week or so ago? I remember a number of very detailed answers.

No, I haven't asked this before. In searching this board, I have only been able to find info on the County Hall Marriott. If you know of where the detailed answers are, please tell me the title of the post.<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR><BR>Sherryl

Depending upon how many points you have, and how you wish to conserve or use them, you may want to consider this suggestion.<BR><BR>We stayed at the Windsor/Slough Marriott Courtyard our last trip for 10 nights. We stayed 10 nights there for the number of points that we would haev spent for 4 or 5 in the inner city Marriot.<BR><BR>We had a 10 day Brit rail pass and took the train to London in the morning and back out in the evening. Train ride was about 20 minutes.<BR><BR>It might work for you as well.<BR><BR>US

I stayed at the Mariott County Hall in a Thames view room (free upgrade) last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good service, comfortable room, unbeatable view. The London Eye practically goes by your window; a short walk over the bridge to the Houses of Parliament, etc.,<BR>Very close to Waterloo station (for anyone taking Eurostar). <BR>The only other London Marriott I've stayed in was in Swiss Cottage and it wasn't nearly as attractive (or well located), although it did have a big fitness center.

<BR>There was a recent discussion on this site regarding the various Marriotts, in which I participated, but I can't find it. My personal view on the hotels is as follows:<BR><BR>Park Lane - brand new, will be most up-to-date in terms of facilities, some people think the neighbourhood is boring, but it has as good a location as Grosvenor in my opinion.<BR><BR>Grosvenor - older hotel, well-maintained but rooms are smaller. Great location if you want to be the Oxford shopping and the West End. It may be difficult to get in here using your points, as occupancy here is always very high.<BR><BR>County Hall - great location for views and activities along the river. Gets high marks on this site. Good size rooms.<BR><BR>Kensington - This hotel is not yet open, and is supposed to open in May. You should check with Marriott to make sure the opening will take place when scheduled. It is near the Earls Court tube stop, which puts it a bit out of the more centrally-located hotels.<BR><BR>Renaissance Chancery Court - you did not mention this, but it is one of my personal favourites, you can use your Marriott points here as this chain is operated by Marriott. Large rooms. Opened about a year ago in a beautifully restored old insurance building. The lobby and the bar are registered in the National Trust due to their architectural features. Not as central as Park Lane or Grovsner, but close to the Holborn tube stop. First-class spa.<BR><BR>I would NOT recommend the Marble Arch Marriott, as it is old and has not been redone in many years.<BR>

Glad I checked here! I have reservations using my points at the Marble Arch - the web site says it's newly refurbished. I'll have to buy some extra points to stay at the County Hall, but it sounds like it might be worth it. We have to have 2 rooms so it takes double the points for a family of 5 :-(<BR><BR>Is the Marble Arch experience a recent one?<BR><BR>Thanks

Using our points and becuase there was a deal - we just stayed at the Marble Arch Marriott - 2 blocks north of Hyde Park Corner - area not as posh as Park Lane, but hotel itself WAS renovated and rooms were very comfortable for 3 of us with 2 good Queen beds &amp; good bathroom. Nice restaurant with breakfast buffet and late night bar. 2 blocks to Marble Arch Tube, 3 to Paddington and just off #15 bus line which took us directly to Tower of London on same route as tour buses.

Based on this thread and others, I just booked using Marriott points at County Hall, but I'm thinking about calling and seeing if I can change to Grosvenor as a travel agent friend just told me...
