London Luxury Business Hotel
 

The senior partner in my firm has asked for advice on a business-equipped hotel in or near the City in London. He wants either a completely updated/upgraded hotel or a new property. He's stayed at the Savoy and the Connaught in the past and finds them "old" and not to his taste. His tastes in the U.S. run toward Four Seasons and the like. Any ideas would be great. I'm thinking of recommending the Lanesborough, the Dorchester, or the Berkeley...

OK. Think an apt. with maid/room service might work? Might want to check out Central Apts. at www.chequershotels.com. I know the Hilton Green Park is nice. I'm sure others would know the "4* circuit" better than I. Good luck, M.

How about the recently renovated "One Aldwich" near the Strand in the city.

Michael <BR> <BR>There are plenty of five star hotels in London. If he is looking for something modern and trendy then either The Sanderson, St Martins Lane, No1 Aldwich, or The Hempel. If he wants to be in The City then The Great Eastern. The Renaissance London Chancery Court Hotel is new but traditional in styling. There is also a Four Seasons but this is located at Canary Wharf to the east of the City and away from the West End. There is also a new concept Hilton, The Trafalgar which aims to be a lifestyle hotel a place where old meets new. It also features a bar called Rockwell specialising in Bourbon, offering over 100 brands. <BR>

David's recommendations are good. Definately not The Lanesborough or Dorchester - they're posh but very trad. <BR> <BR>In addition to David's list, you could also try The Covent Garden Hotel (popular with stars). Most of the fashionable hotels tend to be in or around Covent Gardn, which is good for the City.

Michael, <BR>I think most of the people answering your post are missing the point - I understand it to be that you are asking for a hotel in or near "The City", i.e. the Financial area of London. All these other suggestions are for elsewhere in London, nice hotels all, but frequently not close to The City area. While I do not know of any in The City itself someone out there must!

Go to onealdwych.co.uk It is just off the Strand near Waterloo Bridge. I think of that as being "the City". It's certainly convenient to the financial/legal area of London. Also fairly close to Covent Gardens and lots of restaurants.Very modern, very posh, sounds perfect for your partner.We were in London in September and lots of people were praising it.

I don't know about the hotel part of 1 Aldwych but have eaten in both hotel restaurants and they are modern, attractive and serve wonderful meals. <BR>Kavey <BR> <BR>You could also have a surf on somewhere like lastminute.com, not to book but to perhaps get more ideas for some newer London hotels...

Michael, what about the Great Eastern hotel in Liverpool street. This is located in the city of London (square mile) and is a good, modern luxury business hotel. Anyone stayed at the St. Martins Lane or the Sanderson? Which one is better and what are the rooms like?

According to Time Out the Sanderson is "a dreamier version of St Martin's Lane with a Fitzrovia address". Not sure if that helps! - I have not stayed at either but have heard good reports about both. <BR><BR>
