London - Leeds
Hi, During my vacation to London this coming August I plan on taking a side trip to Leeds, West Yorkshire. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap, quick, and easy way to get from London to Leeds, West Yorkshire. I have limited knowledge of the rail and other systems. All suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you kindly, benoilers |
Quick and easy is on GNER trains from London King's Cross. Every 30 minutes, trip about 2:10 to 2:30.
www.gner.com Cost will depend on type of tickets, advance purhcase, etc... |
Trains run every half hour and take about two and a quarter hours. Look at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
|
There are also buses from Leeds to London, which my son used several times when he was in Leeds for a year abroad. He said the buses were cheaper, but that may have been because he didn't get advance tickets. I remember that we saved quite a bit on rail travel by booking in advance and selecting off hours.

KarenW,
Did your son use National Express? http://www.nationalexpress.com/home/hp.cfm. benoilers - you don't have to register to check dates and prices. I used to use National Express years ago (pre website :-) )to travel from Yorkshire to London, the buses were always clean and on time. Have a great time, it's a wonderful part of the country. |
Cheapest by a country mile are this lot:
http://www.megabus.com/ I just did a london -leeds search and got a price of three quid. That's how much it costs for a pint in London. |
6 quid one way on Midland Mainline trains from St Pancras - but it's slower than GNER, you might also consdier Hull Trains to Doncaster & get a local service to Leeds

Thanks everyone...........checking out everything you mentioned.
Many thanks.......... |
