London-Leamington Public Transportation

Can you guys help me? I don't know where to get info on public transportation from London to Leamington...

www.nationalrail.co.uk

www.nationalexpress.co.uk

Frankly apart from megabus or flying there really ain't any other choices for long distance travel in the UK

I assume you mean Royal Leamington Spa. That is the actual name of the town and may explain why you are having trouble finding info.

It is on the main rail line from London to Birmingham. Any of the usual rail websites will give you the info . . .

The railway station is called Leamington Spa and it's on the Chiltern line from London Marylebone. Trains are usually every half hour, and take about an hour and a half.

Direct trains take about 1.5 hours from London Marylebone to Leamington Spa and that's probably the best way to go. The scenery is not that bad on the way either.

I've not heard it called "Royal Leamington Spa" for a long time. I lived there for two years a while back. Janis sounds like Hyacinth Bucket in her post which made me think of that since a fair bit of the Keeping Up Appearances series was filmed in Leamington.

Huh? I'm certainly no Hyacinth. I was just trying to help the OP if she was googling or anything.

BTW - every road atlas I have (probably 5 or 6) including a 2006 Philip's and a 2003 Michelin lists it as Royal Leamington Spa. Sure, in conversation one would just say Leamington Spa - but the name of the town IS Royal Leamington Spa.

...but it's not the name of the railway station.

Actually, last time I was filling up at the local Asda, no-one was calling the place anything other than Leamington.

This "Royal" thing is a bit like calling Southern California's excuse for a real city 'El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula'

PatrickLondon Mar 10th, 2006 04:31 AM

I can see why they wouldn't want to call it Porciuncula.

blinkygurl Mar 14th, 2006 12:15 PM

what's an OP, janisj? i'm such a fodorite rookie!

Grahamh49 Mar 14th, 2006 12:18 PM

More to the point, what's a Porciuncula and can it be easily removed?
