eco,
Five or so years ago, the City of London was a real hub for cutting edge graphic design. Don't know if that's still true (it may have migrated) but I still think it's fun wandering around looking at the various design shops in re-habbed buildings. Sunday is a good day to visit in conjunction with the Spitalfields Market. A number of the five art, design, and fashion colleges making up the University of the Arts London will be holding their Degree Shows while you're there. I especially like St. Martins College of Art & Design and the Chelsea College of Art & Design. Even the everyday student shows there are well worth a look. I always check out the offerings at these places: Barbican Art Gallery Whitechapel Gallery Royal Academy of Arts * Saatchi Gallery Courtauld Institute (you included) Guildhall Art Gallery (you included) V&A (you included) * The Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition will be up during your visit. It's a hoot and a not-miss if you're an artist. (URL: http://www.royalacademy.org.uk/?lid=610) There's a bookstore called Zwemmer (80 Charring Cross Rd) that specializes in art, design, and architecture. The British Council can be a good resource for information. URL: http://www.britishcouncil.org/arts-aad.htm Have a great trip and happy honeymoon! |
Thanks for backing me up historytraveler. Yes, I want to see Dover Castle and the Secret Wartime tunnels, and maybe take a boat ride. If it is a clear day, I hear I can see France, and, isplumm, that's good enough for me. Paris doesn't appeal to me, at least not right now. We have never been overseas. We're starting our traveling lives together with somewhere we both always wanted to go and think we'll be comfortable in. If we are lucky enough to make it back to Europe, then we'll see.

Fair enough ...
I've been to Dover a few times - but only to catch the ferry to France - never really seen it as a tourist destination. Mark |
The London Transport Museum is closed for renovation. Hopefully, the shop is still open so you can get a "Mind the Gap" t-shirt or some of the classic posters promoting various Tube stations.
Check out Speakers Corner on a Sunday when the soapbox philosophers are there in full force. I don't see Windsor Castle on your list of things to see. Good choice of Regents Canal. I didn't go there when I was living in London and I wish I did. I hear the houseboats and Little Venice are magical in that you'd never expect to see them in London. The Museum of London was okay, and it's a little out of the way in the Barbican complex. Don't feel bad if you end up skipping it. Do the National Portrait Gallery in one day, not split up into two. |
