London in September

Our May plans got dissed because of my work travel schedule and now we are looking at September. We plan on spending the every night in London with only maybe one day trip. Is there any special week to avoid (like our USA Labor day or) for any other reason like everything in town closes for some reason?
I really love this site. I got so much help in planning a trip to Paris in 2002.

Sept 18 and 19 is London Open House Weekend when many of the buildings not otherwise open to the public can be seen free of charge. The popular ones can draw lines of one hour or more but it's worth it.

September is a fabulous time to visit, or at least it was for me. Enjoy it!

Thanks Guys. I guess there are no times to really avoid because of extreme crowds or closed attractions?

You're right, there are no times to avoid because schools go back at the beginning of September.

If you have a choice I'd leave it until the second week say by which time all the schools will have gone back and the end of August travellers have gone. September is a great month to visit.

We have a Bank Holiday on the last Monday in August but nothing in September where you need to worry about things being closed.
