London in October
 

I will be traveling to London at the end of October. Is the weather cold and rainy and will a lightweight winter coat be adequate? Of course, I'll bring an umbrella.

I've been in London many an October and the weather could be cool and rainy or it could be 60s and sunny - very variable but of course bring an umbrella.

I've had weeks of great weather and at other times poor wet weather but not very cold. To me a good time to go. No lines at tourist sights.

I guess I just don't get it. I have traveled to England and Scotland during most months and always dress the same. Cotton pants, polo shirt, sweater, hat and jacket. If I get cold I put the sweater on and if I get warm I take it off. Last year I was in Northern England in Feburary and dressed the same

And in October in London IME you'll be taking sweater on and off several times a day. when the 'sunny spells' occur it heats up - when they go away it cools down.

Based on experience of our crazy weather over the past few months (warm and sunny in April, cool with torrential rain in June & July), I'm not putting any bets on what we can expect in October. Would it really change your plans that much if your did know right now? You can always adjust your packing list nearer the time.

London is usually drizzly in October but not cold. A regular raincoat is plenty - you're be way overheated in a winter coat.
