London in 2.5 days, not a been there done that report
We are on the end of our journey, we were in paris for 3 days prior to flying to London.
Our flight from CDG was 9:45 at night, so we arrive at London Heathrow at 10:00. Our driver was waiting for us, we used http://exclusiveairport.com/ I paid in advance and I received a 5 pounds discount, so the final price for 4 to our hotel was 40 pounds. He had a minivan, and was there waitng, there are no extra parking fees with this service. We stayed at Central Park Hotel 49/67 Queensborough Terrace London, W2 3SS, United Kingdom +44 20 7229 2424 Those are just the facts mam, and more fun details to follow. Our first night in London, Feb.22 we pretty much crash and burn after our amazing time in Paris. Tommorow Feb. 23, we will be refreshed and we will fall in love with London as well. |
Looking forward to more report to find what all you were able to see.do in a little more than 2 days. I always feel one needs at least 5-6 days,so please share details.
Also did you find any good shopping itemsz? |
Feb 23, I awake early for once, I check out the area of the hotel and there looks like some good shopping. The shops are across queensway tube station. Nothing is open yet, so I go back to the hotel to have some breakfast, it was lame compared to Villa Saint Martin in paris. Bad coffee, so so croissents, some cereals and milk.
We go to the shops now that are open, and I bought a cute coat, and hat, my friends found some knock off designer purses that were cool We are going to Kensington Palace and then have lunch at L'Oranerie. I really enjoyed the Palace tour, I was afraid it was going to be too much about Diana, but it is a nice comprimise of her life and the story of the palace. We are starving since we didn't get a very good breakfast and head to L'Orangerie. What a delightful place, yummy yummy food. We had a long leisurely late lunch. We then went to covent gardens area and just had fun soaking up all the atmosphere and shopping. I have friends who live in London and our evening was spent at their flat, and having them cook wonderful chinese food and drinking wine! We originally had reserved to see Dennis Severs house, but we really needed some down time so cancelled. I would recommend dennis severs house to anyone reading this thread, it is awesome. I went 4 years ago, it is kewl. of course we got to bed at 2:30 am again! So late start tommorow, I do like my sleep. |
waiting for more :)

Today is our last full day, we tube to Leicester square to get theater tickets, as luck would have it, we got tickets to La Cauge Aux Folles with Graham Norton...can't wait. WE then go to Westminster Abbey we spend 1 hour there, I know that is short but we have seen so much in Paris....we are getting a little overloaded. I think Westminster Abbey is magnificent, and this was my 4th time going there. We then walk aroung the area, Big Ben, parliment, see the lomdon eye.
We split up 2 ladies go to Tower of London and me and my friend go to Wnston Churchill cabinet rooms. It was fantastic! We spent 2 hours there, and really could have spent more time in the Churchill museum. We then tube to Tower tube stop, meet our friends and eat Indian food at a pub right across the street from tower of London. Next post my review of the play! We then |

It's one of my favorite "museums" anywhere! I (actually "we" - husband and kids, too) just find it fascinating. |

I liked the War Rooms part, but not so much with the actual Churchill Museum section. Perhaps I'm old-fashioned, so I really didn't care for all the multi-media displays as I found them difficult to follow.
Since I was traveling solo, I thought the admission was quite pricey. OTOH, I like the Imperial War Museum more, so much so that I had gone back for a second visit within one year. Of course, the fact that the IWM is free is a bonus. |
La Cauge Aux Folles was fantastic! Graham Norton was panned when he first took over this role, but he has really jelled into his role. I loved it, you can't walk out of theater after seeing the show and not keep thinking about the music.
All of my friends felt the same way, our seats were stalls, center and half price! Go see it, it is that good. Nightcap at he hotel and tommorow we fly home to chicago... |
Feb. 25th, I am packed and ready to go...our flight leaves at 3:45. I decide to tube to the airport and my friends hire just airports car service to pick them up.
I leave the hotel early to pay my respects to the V&A museum and the Natural History. I didn't have much time but it was still WORTH it. First time to the Natural History museum, what a beautiful building. I got on the tube to Heathrow and fly BA back home with an added bonus of being bumped up to premium seats. VERY nice indeed, until next time, hope you enjoyed my travels, PJ |
