London hotels: Clarendon hotel?
 

Has anyone had any experience with the Clarendon hotel in bloomsbury area of London? Any other recommendations in that area for under $200 per night?

Last year, I stayed at the Cresent Hotel, 49-50 Crescent Gardens. I paid 51.3 pounds with a 10% discount for staying 7 nights. It was basic; third floor with no lift, and toilet down the hall. They probably have en suite rooms that are well below $200. The breakfast was adequate. No defects,

My first choice was the Ridgemount, which had good reviews, but they were booked up.

That was the first time I'd stayed in Bloomsbury, and I found it to be a good location.

Hi Laura. The company I work for use the Clarendon for non-Executive stays in London (also the Buckingham Hotel in the same street). The decor is slightly old world but most of the rooms are HUGE and have lovely modern bathrooms plus small kitchens and/or fridges. If you book make sure to ask for a room at the back on the ground floor or above as the back overlooks their gardens. You can sometimes get rates under £100 a night at the weekend but they tend to be higher during the week.

Thanks for the reply! Any reason that you might prefer the Buckingham which was also available? Also, others have recommended the Morgan Hotel in the same area. Any opinions on that one?

Sorry for the delay in replying. No major advantage for the Buckingham, just that I've stayed there personally. They are next-door to each other and very similar. I would go with whatever one has the best price. Don't pay for the breakfast unless it's included though - as with most London hotels it's ridiculously over-priced and you can get breakfast in a cafe or coffee shop for a quarter of the price.

I don't know any other hotel's apart from the Grange Hotel chain I'm afraid...
