If you have access to it, today's New York Times has an article about some trendy restaurants in London
Also check out the Oct issue of the American version of House and Garden
which has a great shopping section, with a couple of eating suggestions

Also try the website www.squaremeal.co.uk - it has lots of reviews including many categories which you can search under, such as Whats Hot, Chic Bars, Best British, Best French etc etc.
www.lastminute.com also has reviews sent in to them from the general public.

I stayed at the Sanderson in early June. The hotel is sexy, clean and very trendy - saw Madonna and Guy Ritchie in the lobby after their spa treatments at Aqua (2nd Floor). Service is excellent. We arrived at the hotel by 7am after a very long flight and they let us check in right away. Very Expensive but I would definitely stay again. At least stop by for a drink at the bar!

Go to www.lastminute.com and see their restaurant pages for advice and deals. They often have good bargains at some of the trendy restaurants you are keen to visit. Also, try eating at lunch for the same food but at cheaper prices. Some of the prices here are ludicrous, and really not worth paying.

Went to the Savoy for dinner once..it was a very sleepy place., lots of gentry, and old money, and the atmosphere was veddy veddy English, lots of lords and ladies, but actually, I would rather eat in some little Indian or Chinese hole=in-the wall...I learned that yoiu can pay tons for very little, except the title of the place.

My knowledge of the London restaurant scene is a bit out of date, but ...
"Haute" cuisine: Gordon Ramsay
Indian: Chutney Marys or Bombay Brasserie (these are upmarket - someone MUST know a good cheap Indian in London - it's our national dish)
Japanese: Suntory
Eclectic: The Ivy or Caprice (used to be owned by same people, but I think they've sold)
Modern British: Bibendum (maybe???)
Try www.theaa.co.uk for comprehensive hotel/restaurant reviews - these are not in a Tatler style, but rather drier, and don't tell you about fashion!
In a different mould, search this forum for the thoughts of Ben Haines for establishments of more discreet charm - next time I'm in town, I might just go to one of his recommended pubs.
