London Hotels

Will be in London in May for 1 or 2 nights. Want central location to main attractions, nice and clean and mid-priced. Have been told Bayswater, Earls Ct. and Belgravia are good hotel areas. Any suggestions helpful. The price isn't that important, just don't want too spend alot when not going to be in the room very long. Thanks

..use priceline and "bid" for your room. Read biddingfortravel first. For what you pay for a 4* (..really a #* by North American standards) you would be lucky to get a decent B and B.

"Want central location to main attractions, nice and clean and mid-priced" What do you mean by "mid-priced"? Could mean anything so give us a number.

Also, no location is close to more than a bare handful of the main attractions. London is huge and the sites are spread over a wide area - but the public transport is very good so you can get anywhere from anywhere.

Of the 3 areas you mention 2 (Earl's Court and Bayswater) are neighborhoods just FULL of budget/low end B&Bs/hotels. Belgravia runs from high end to some low end very near Victoria Station. I personally wouldn't stay in any of those neighborhoods - though there are some good choices in all three.

Priceline is a good option if you need a double - not if you are a family traveling together.

So tell us what your actual budget is and we can help you more.

Our price is around 200 a night, give or take. Wasn't sure about areas-would love thoughts on that too. Thanks

200 what? £, $? And is that for a double - or are there more of you?

If you mean £200 - that is fairly generous and there is no reason you'd need to stay in Earl's court or Bayswater.

Sorry-I meant around 200 us dollars.

Stayed at the Bayswater Inn. Three blocks from the Bayswater metro station. Clean, pvt bath, lounge, breakfast daily. Read reviews on Tripadvisor.com

$200 pretty much equates to 100 GBP. Not really even in the mid-priced range for London. Your best bet is priceline. With an excellent transportation system in addition to an easily walkable city, almost anywhere in London will be central to all the tourist attractions.

One vote for priceline.com after learning the ropes at biddingfortravel.com

if it is for two of you - then Priceline will be the way to go for sure. You can get a 4 star place for about $80 - $100. Again, that is only for doubles.

Otherwise, 100GBP is OK but won't get you nearly the hotel that priceline will. In fact, if you bid the Knightsbridge/Kensington/Earls Court PL zone you will likely end up near Earls Court but only spend about $75 (plus taxes). Earls Court is a LOT easier to take in a 3.5-4 star hotel at $75 instead of a flea bag for 80-90 GBP.
