London Hotels

PLease recommend a hotel in the middle of everything (in London)with shops and great restaurants nearby. It's hard to find since you dont know where the good/bad areas are.
:-)
Heidi

There are - oh, say, 500+ hotels "in the middle of everything with shops and great restaurants nearby".

Prices range from $50 per night (or less) to the sky's the limit. Do a search - MANY great places have been recommended on this board in good neighborhoods at all price ranges.

Hi Heidi, I would go to the Rants and Raves section of this forum for a huge listing of hotels.. London is generally a great town no matter where you stay. But it helps if you have some idea of your interests. Would you be more apt to want to to to the Tower of London, Notting Hill etc. I usually like to stay close to Hyde Park so that I can jog in the am.

Heidi -
I just got back from London and stayed in the Notting Hill area, which was very convenient. I stayed at the Comfort Inn Notting Hill which was 1/2 block from the Notting Hill tube station, which is on 3 tube lines. Also within 1-2 blocks were numerous stores, restaurants, drug stores, etc. There was no problem with walking around at night (although I wasn't out by myself after 10:30 p.m.).
Martha
Dear Ms Westcott,

There is just one unsafe area in central London, the one beside Kings Cross station. The Great Northern Hotel, the last hotel there, closed a year ago. For notes on where to stay, where to eat, and a list of London hotels with their official classification and a rating please see http:// www.theaa.co.uk/Region9/AllHotel.html.

I think the Strand and County Hall are well placed for reaching most tourist spots in London, and theatres and music.
